Richard is a Partner at Awalime, Bartels-Kodwo & Sarpong (Barristers and Solicitors of the Supreme Court of Ghana).
He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Insolvency and Restructuring Practitioners (CIRIP, Ghana), Ghana Bar Association (GBA), International Bar Association (IBA), UK and duly qualified and licensed by the General Legal Council to practice law in Ghana. He had also trained briefly with the law firm of Lithur Brew and Company.
His practice areas include tax, litigation, corporate governance, oil and gas, corporate/legal secretarial services, real estate law, criminal law, various types of international commercial transactions, public and private sector procurement, banking, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and other cross-border commercial transactions.
He is currently the General Counsel to and the Board Secretary of American International School, AH Hotel and Conference, Appointed Time Printing Ltd and Ignite Media Group (the parent company of Metropolitan Television Network (Metro Tv) in Ghana) among others.
Richard has rendered legal services in other jurisdictions through various international transactions such as the restructuring of a waste management company in Angola, the sourcing of financing and related matters in Togo (from Ecowas Bank for Investment and Development) and Thailand (Thai EXIM Bank) on behalf of some Ghanaian companies. He has also been the lead Counsel in commercial transactions between a Ghanaian private company and the Lagos State Government of Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Guinea Conakry and Russia.
He also has more than six (6) years of experience as an in-house counsel and subsequently a legal manager for a diverse group of companies in Ghana and has worked on numerous government and private commercial agreements.
Richard holds Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA), Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB), Barrister’s license (BL), Master of Laws (LLM – Corporate and Commercial Law), Master of Science (Msc) in Accounting and Finance and an alumnus of the International Law Institute of Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA.
